SUNSHOWER: Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia 1980s to Now

Ho Tzu Nyen is representing Singapore at ‘SUNSHOWER: Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia 1980s to Now’ an exhibition celebrating 50 years since the establishment of ASEAN. Named after the natural phenomenon of rain falling from clear skies, which is common across the region, SUNSHOWER offers a diverse and detailed interpretation of society and culture in South East Asia through the art of the last half century. Ho Tzu Nyen is among 10 artists representing Singapore at the exhibition, which is jointly held at Mori Art Museum and National Art Centre Tokyo, Japan.

Exhibiting in what will be one of the largest exhibitions of Southeast Asian Art ever, Ho Tzu Nyen’s work ‘One or Several Tigers’ explores the mythological representation of tigers and weretigers in Singapore and Malaysia. Deeply rooted in historical context, Ho’s works interweave fact and fiction, truth and myth, reinterpreting the past to reflect the present.

‘SUNSHOWER: Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia 1980s to Now’ is on view at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo and National Art Centre, Tokyo through 23 October 2017. Tickets can be purchased online or at either venue.
